The Story

Young Hanuman wakes up hungry. He looks at the sky. He sees the rising sun, golden and glowing on the horizon. And he thinks: that looks like the most delicious fruit I have ever seen.

What follows is one of the most extraordinary stories in all of Hindu mythology. A fearless divine child who leaps into space, catches the sun in his hands, swallows it whole, and sets off a chain of events that involves Rahu, Indra’s thunderbolt, the god of wind stopping the breath of the universe, and every deity in the heavens offering gifts to a small boy lying unconscious on the ground.

This is where Hanuman begins. Not on a battlefield. Not with a mace in his hand. With an empty stomach and a sense of wonder that had no concept of the word impossible.

The Comic

Illustrated in a stunning Marvel meets Arcane meets ancient Indian miniature painting style, this is devotional storytelling reimagined for the generation that grew up with graphic novels and anime. Rich, dramatic, cinematic panels that honour the full weight of the story while making it completely alive for a reader who has never held a Sanskrit text.

Twelve pages. Full colour. Print-ready A4.

Best experienced on a tablet or printed at home.

About Divinity Creative UK

Divinity Creative UK exists because the greatest stories ever told deserve to be told in every era, in every format, in every language a new generation actually speaks.

For thousands of years the stories of Hinduism and Sanatan Dharma have been passed between generations through scripture, song, dance and oral tradition. These are not old stories. They are living stories. Stories about courage, devotion, sacrifice, wisdom and love that are as true today as the morning they were first told.

We are a creative studio dedicated to bringing those stories into the modern world through the mediums young people already love. Comics. Animation. Music. Activity packs. Each one produced with the same devotion and the same intention: that a child who picks up one of our comics, listens to one of our albums or works through one of our activity packs walks away knowing something true about themselves and their heritage.

The Boy Who Ate the Sun is Issue 1 of the Hanuman Origin Comics series. It is free because we believe every child deserves to know this story. It is beautifully made because we believe these stories deserve nothing less.

Welcome to Divinity Creative UK.
